Road trips is the best way to explore Australia especially the great outback. For family touring with kids, spend a few hours at the Alice Springs Desert Park which is less than 15 mins drive from Alice Springs town centre via the Larapinta Drive (State Route 6).

See unique desert animals like the Thorny Devil, Bilby, Prerentie, Bearded Dragon, Red Kangaroo and Desert Dingo. Learn how Aboriginal people use the plants and animals that are unique to Central Australia as rich supply of food and medicine. Follow the Larapinta Drive, 15km from Alice Springs Desert Park about 10 mins drive is Simpsons Gap. This is one of the most prominent gaps in the West MacDonnell Ranges. You may spot Black-footed Rock-wallabies along the walking track into the gap.

There are many short walks. The 223km Larapinta Trail is one of the most spectacular bushwalking track and Ellery Creek Big Hole is one of the most popular and picturesque camping, walking, swimming and picnic spots.
